Am I Eligible?

Each Indigenous Award has unique eligibility criteria. Click on the Award that you wish to apply for to determine if you are eligible.

Detailed Eligibility Criteria:

  • Apprenticeship/Trades Training/Certificates/Diplomas
    • You are First Nations (Status or Non-Status), Inuit or Métis;
    • You are a resident of British Columbia, defined as having a primary residence in the province for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the date of full-time enrollment in the program for which the award is applied for;
    • You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant), convention refugee, or protected person living in Canada;
    • You are planning to study at a BC public post-secondary institution, or Indigenous post-secondary institution;
    • Your course of study will be no less than seven (7) continuous weeks in length and will commence sometime between the dates of  May 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025;
    • You will be registered as a full-time student*, as defined by the institution you will be attending (usually 60% or more of a full course load).

    *Exceptions may apply to applicants who are prevented from studying full-time for medical reasons or disabilities.

    How to Apply

    • Previous Year Award Recipients:
      If you previously received an Award in this category and you remain enrolled in your program on a full-time basis, you may request a renewal of your award. (Maximum of one additional year.)
    • If you previously received an Award in this category and have completed your program, you can apply for a new Award for a different program.

    • You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant), convention refugee, or protected person living in Canada;

    How to Apply

    Previous Year Award Recipients:

    • If you previously received an Award in this category, and you remain enrolled in the same full-time program, you may request a renewal of your original award.(Maximum of four additional years for Master’s, or five additional years for Doctoral.);
    • Past recipients completing their programs following only one additional term of study are eligible to apply for partial renewals valued at half the total award amount;
    • If you previously received an Award(s) in this category and have completed your program, you can apply for a new Award for a different program.
